Group Leader Response LC #3

      A. Theme: Staying fearless in a inhumane situation is tough, in the book "Night" it takes a true hero to survive something so gruesome.

      B. Character: With strong hope and faith Ellie Wiesel is a survivor of all the pain, torture, and traumatic seeings the holocaust had to offer.

Group Reader Response LC #2

1a. Dehumanization: the act of degrading people with respect to their best qualities

   b. The Jews acted normal and didn't worry about anything in the beginning of the book.  After going through rough handling and seeing horrible things, their brains started to become corrupted and they worried about everything.

  c.  Eliezer  became depressed throughout the book and less outspoken. When his father got beat by the prison guards he just stood there and watched because he knew if he took a standpoint he would get beat too.

2a.

"Little by little life returned to normal. The barbed wire which fenced us in did not cause us any real fear." "Madame Schachter had gone out of her mind. Fire! I can see fire! I can see fire!"

“There were no longer any questions of wealth, of social distinction, and importance, only people all condemned to the same fate-still unknown.”

"I did not move. What happened to me? My father had just been struck, before my vary eyes, and I had not flickered an eyelid."

Group Reader Response LC #1

1a.
When the Jews heard information about the invasion, they were scared at first but then later reinsured themselves that everything was going to be fine and it was just another movement. An example would be when they were moved into the ghetto. Nobody knew what was going on or where they were going. This lead them to being scared but they just had faith and believed that everything was going to be fine.
2a.
"Moshe had changed. There was no longer and joy in his eyes. He no longer sang. He no longer talked to me of God or the cabals, but only what he had seen. People refused not only to believe his stories, but even to listen to them."
This showed how Moshe was so traumatized when seeing these actions and he wanted to notify everyone. He was depressed that nobody believed him even though he knew he was telling the truth.
"I wept because--because of something inside me that felt the need for tears. That was all I knew."
This shows how Elie shows his faith and why he isn't sure why he cries when he prays. This is an important quote in the book because it shows us what kind of person he is. Even though he doesn't know what makes him feel so moved by his religion, he has no doubt about his faith  and wants to learn more about it.
 "A-7713!"
This simply shows how the Jews were classified and how they had no names as if they were dead. This was important to the story because it shows how little pity they have for the Jews

“There were no longer any questions of wealth, of social distinction, and importance, only people all condemned to the same fate- still unknown.”
This shows that the prisoners have nothing left and were stripped of all their valuables. They only have fate that needs to show
"You must never lose faith, even when the sword hangs over your head."
This shows that even though you think everything that is happening is bad, keep your head up and have faith. This is important in the story because they are all miserable and think they are going to die.

Aushwitz

Aushwitz was the largest concentration camp built by the Nazis which included three main camps. The camps were located approximately 37 miles west of Krakow, near the prewar German-Polish border in Upper Silesia, an area that Nazi Germany annexed in 1939 after invading and conquering Poland. Aushwitz I was the main camp established near Oswiecim. Construction began in May 1940 in an abandoned Polish army artillery barracks. The SS authorities continuously deployed prisoners at forced labor to expand the physical contours of the camp. Aushwitz II was the largest in total population of its prisoners. It was divided into more than a dozen sections separated by barbed-wire fences and, like Auschwitz I, was patrolled by SS guards.  The camp also included sections for women, men, a family camp for Gypsies deported from Germany, Austria and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, and a family camp for Jewish families deported from the Theresienstadt ghetto. Aushwitz I and Aushwitz II were the main camps that held the prisoners.

Aushwitz III and the Subcamps were mainly for prisoners to work and be put into labor. Auschwitz III, also called Monowitz, was established in October 1942 to assign prisoners to work with synthetic rubber works. The Germans established a factory in which its executives intended to exploit concentration camp labor for their plans to manufacture synthetic rubber and fuels. They invested 1.4 million dollars into the camps. The subcamps were established between 1942-1944 with 39 camps. The prisoners would work for hours either in a factory or outside doing hard labor, food was scarce and usually just consisted of a bowl of soup and some bread which was intentional and would eventually starve the prisoners. Living in Auschwitz was hell for prisoners and between being experimented on or having bad living situations and eventually dying a slow and painful death, Auschwitz was what the Nazi’s used as a genocide of the Jews.

Allusion Poem Final

"I'm going to touch the butt" I said
Curious yet scared at the same time
Not knowing what the future beholds,
I went anyway

Young, Still in school, and Growing did not hold me back
Being hard headed is something I did not lack
It was too late to turn around
If I did, all my friends would think I'm wack

Inching closer and closer
And as it gets darker and darker
A giant net sweeps me up
I swam and swam to get back down
But I couldn't get away
I was just a stupid clown

Trying to impress
Didn't lead to nothing but a mess
But just a worried dad
I tried everything to find him and make him glad

Doing everything I can
To be reunited with my main man
The net was a tough learning experience
I just hope he would understand

Now I'm back
And the punishments won't slack
But at least I'm home

Nemo…
More like Shimo
